The Perfect Smile

It is kind of funny I thought of this. I went to the dentist yesterday to have my teeth clean. I remember the very first time when I visited the dentist was at the age of sixteen. I was one of the fortunate who never got a cavity till I was in my thirties. I never had braces and very straight teeth. Growing up in Hong Kong, visiting the dentist is a luxury item! Have you noticed that most Chinese people in Hong Kong don’t have nice teeth? Well, it is true.
In Hong Kong with the health system, the government provides general health care to the public. There is a nominal fee if you go to see a doctor but oral care is not included. It is not a priority or they see that as unnecessary to seek oral care. In fact, they are not kin on preventive care. I remember those days of getting so sick, being in line for hours to get to see the doctor. It was not fun. My head was spinning and I had a fever, standing in line for hours would make me feel worst.
Now that I have lived here for quite some time, I understand the importance of oral hygiene. It can really affect your health. I never heard of flossing in Hong Kong. I till this day, trying to have a good habit of flossing every day seems to be a struggle. Mouthwash can play an important part of having healthy gum and teeth. It can prevent you from getting the deceiving gum line. I wish I knew that when growing up. Now, whatever damage is done, will be there but I can prevent that getting worst by going to the dentist twice a year and have the examination. Have those teeth clean and have a perfect smile!

You touch on great topics with keen insight. I see a need for better world-wide health-care. I definitely see the need for it in America. I also include dentistry in that health-care. If one cannot smile and smile confidently, beam if you will, then the person may not be healthy and may have low self esteem. If teeth are not taken care of it can lead to other problems. The heart is not far away from the teeth. Infections in the mouth can affect the major organ of the body. Thanks for another great hub!
