Interesting Place to Visit in Chicago-Chinatown
72If you are looking for something to do during the weekend in Chicago, Chinatown is an interesting place to visit. I actually grew up in Chinatown in the 70's. It didn’t have much then. Now it has expanded so much. It is not quite the same. If you take Interstate 55 depending on which way you come from, you get off at Cermak Rd exit. It is right there. If you want to take the train, get off at Union Station, taking a taxi to Chinatown costs about $12. It is about 10 minute ride. You can always take the bus or the Al. There is also a water taxi that you can take from the Union Station which would bring you to Chinatown. There would be a lot of walking and shopping. Be sure to bring a backpack with a bottle of water and wear a pair of comfortable shoes. There are Chinese restaurants to cure your hunger after the walk.
Chinatown is consistent of a few blocks including Archer Avenue which is parallel to Cermak Rd. There is Wentworth which is perpendicular to Cermak Rd. Chinatown Square is a Plaza which is located on Archer Avenue. It has all kinds of stores, restaurants, a bakery, grocery stores, book stores, etc. There are Chinese restaurants mainly on Wentworth. Some are on Archer in the Chinatown Square.
Food is more than reasonable. There are different kind of cuisine such as Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, etc. If you are looking for American food, I would not recommend you to go there at all. My favorite Dim Sum Place is Shui Wah in the Chinatown Square. If you are going for dinner, I would recommend Evergreen Chinese Restaurant. It is kind of at the end of Wentworth and 24th Street. Parking can be kind of difficult but if you don’t mind paying a garage, it is not bad. They have parking boxes everywhere and be sure to pay. You do not want to get a ticket and spoil the fun.
I have a few pictures to share and hope that you find this helpful. Please share your experience with me.

Nice pics, I am in Illinois. I have not been to those places in your pics. Right now, i am hungry for a dimsum.
Going to school at Illinois Tech, Seven Treasures was a great late-night spot for wonton noodle soup after cramming for exams!
My second home in Sydney is Chinatown. Fabulous place to just wander around, and the food is cheap and fantastic. Not that that's had any effect on me. It's just that having discovered Chinatown I've spent the last 30 years reading everything from Journey to the West to Xinhua...
Great photos! That dress is gorgeous.
I grew up straight across the lake in St. Joseph, Michigan so I have spent a lot of time in Chicago. I've been to Chinatown but years ago. I enjoyed your article. Thank you!
Ni haw ma tim-tim?... lol. Well nice picture you got here but when i saw the BBQ Pork,Ribs, Chicken and Roast Duck picture - it reminds me the china town in Malaysia where i work before lol...
Happy photography tim-tim and keep up the good work!
I love the captions under the pictures. You think of everything. I enjoy the HUBS.
Great hub! especially the photos, the china town here in Bs As (argentina) where I live, is tiny compared to the Chicago China town, only a couple of blocks. When I can, I go to see the celebrations of the Chinese new year and to eat something too.
Very lovely pictures. Makes me hungry for Chinese food. You've given some great advice here. I love the red dress too. Thanks.
Thank you for these captivating photographs. I enjoyed your article very much. I have ridden by the entrance to Chinatown several times but never stopped to investigate. The next time I am down that way I will check it out. Thanks again!

I, too, grew up in Chicago in the '70's but on the Southside. I have been to Chinatown several times. I went there to dine and watch the Chinese New Year with the Dragon. It is indeed a nice place to visit both for Chicagoans and tourists alike.
